Overview
What is Flash?
Flash is a Macromedia product that is used to
create a lot of the interactive website multimedia.
Flash is fast becoming a more common way to make
websites fun and unique, changing a static page
into an exciting, active experience. Small Flash
files are integrated into regular HTML to animate
images and text and to provide viewers an entertaining
look at your products and services. From simple
animated banners to high-quality, fully interactive
sites, Flash is a favorite choice for multimedia
designers.
What are the benefits and drawbacks of Multimedia?
Multimedia is fun to use and really makes your
website or presentation stand out. However, it
is more expensive to develop because it is time
consuming. Also, updating the Multimedia is also
more expensive than updating something like a
standard Website.
How are Animated GIFs and Flash different?
Flash allows for fading, sliding, rotating and
a variety of other subtle, progressive changes
compared to Animated GIFs, which only allow for
single frame changes. The result is that Flash
looks continuous and smooth where GIFs have a
tendency to look more abrupt. However, there are
definitely times when GIFs are more apropriate
such as small ads or when file sizes need to remain
small.
